Burpee Box Jumps (20") |
I have been really pleased with Zach’s and my efforts to eat clean. We had a rough binge eating weekend while in St. Louis…I gained 5 pounds while we were there! But since we’ve gotten back I’ve dropped that weight and more. Zach and I are hitting up Orlando, FL for spring break in just four and a half weeks and we want sexy beach bods. My ultimate goal is to get into a bikini and feel good about myself. However, I’m afraid I’ve got such insecurity issues with my body that even if I can get into a bikini I’ll find something wrong with the way I look and not want to wear it. So in addition to eating cleanly and leaning out I am hoping to work on my body image issues.
Monday night I headed to the fort and was happily greeted by Stacy! I’ve missed seeing her at the fort. I had the pleasure of working with her on the strength, hand power cleans. We were working up to a single rep max in the progression of 3-3-3-1-1-1. We started up at 25k-35k-45k and for the sets of one I went with 50k-55k-65k. I attempted 67k three times but failed, unfortunately my pull wasn’t up and back enough so the bar got too far away from me. The WOD looked rough; I don’t particularly care for burpees so when I saw 3:00 burpees box jumps (20”), 2:00 rest, 2:00 burpee box jumps, 2:00 rest, and 1:00 burpee box jumps I was dreading the metcon. I repped out a few BBJ’s before the WOD to make sure that I had a good rhythm. They felt comfortable but I knew I was going to quickly fatigue. My goal was to get 10 BBJ’s a minute. In the first three minutes I completed 29 reps, in the second I got 19 and in the last and final minute I got 13 BBJ’s for a total of 61 reps. I clearly stepped up my pace in the last round, I wasn’t going to end this WOD sandbagging it! |
Kir & I rocking out sit-ups in Barbara |
All day on Tuesday I felt anxious to go to the fort. I had found out a day earlier we would be tackling Barbara. Rxd Barbara is five rounds of 20 pull-ups, 30 pushups, 40 sit-ups and 50 squats. Jennie had told us last time they did Barbara she nearly didn’t complete it and Stacy actually tapped out before the 5th round. This made me quite nervous as Stacy is a very athletic and crosffitty girl, if she tapped out what the heck was this WOD going to do to me? Bill decided to nix the strength portion of class and had reserved the entire hour for just taking on Barbara. As Jennie was trying to figure out everyone’s rep schemes before the WOD I really started to get nervous. But then I realized…what is the worst thing that can happen? I’ll attempt Barbara prescribed and if it comes to a later round and I’m really struggling through the pull-ups I’d just scale the reps back in order to complete all five rounds. NO TAPPING OUT EARLY for this girl! So that’s it, Jennie wrote rxd next to my name and the battle to beat Barbara began! I was so happy with my first round of pull-ups; I got 10 in a row! That is the most consecutive pull-ups I have ever gotten (in fact, I actually think that was a goal of mine that I can now mark off)! Those dead hangs I’ve been working on after every class have really improved my pull-up strength. My push-ups were definitely a downfall of mine during this WOD; they were slow and sometimes only two at a time. However, I fought through and chipped away at the 140 reps per round. I ended up finishing Barbara in a total of 30:23. This time was actually fast enough to earn me the fourth spot on the record board! I was delighted to say the least. I am so proud of everyone at the fort who struggled through Barbara last night. A special shout out goes to Kirsten who worked so hard to use her unassisted pull-ups, and Sammi and Scott our newly graduated ramp-uppers who got the pleasure of completing Barbara on their first official day of class! WAY TO KILL IT EVERYONE! : )
