And the PRs Keep Comin'!

Thursday’s have been floor press days, so I was quite excited to see them back on the board even though our “games programming” has concluded. Our goal was to get up to our single rep max. My previous max was 48k; this was back from September 2010. As we grabbed a warm-up set I asked Bill to calculate my theoretical max, so I had a general idea of where I’d end up. Bill came up with a TSRM at 55k. I was pleased to hear that number and even more pleased when it became my new single rep max! : ) The WOD Thursday was a 12:00 AMRAP of 21 kettle bell swings (16#), 14 burpees, and 7 body rows. Unfortunately, I had met Zach at Panhandlers for lunch that day and really started to feel nauseous during the burpees. I kept at it and ended up getting a total of four rounds plus 35 reps.  But boy did I feel like I wanted to vomit! : (  My score was average, but I’ll be honest…I don’t want to be average anymore. I want to have the top or one of the top ladies’ scores/times in the metcons. I know I am capable of performing well and I just need to suck it up and give it all I have!

It was rough getting up on Friday after our two snow days. In fact, it kind of felt like a Monday all day long – thank god it wasn't! On my way to the fort I dropped my good friend Kelly a line, it was good to hear from her. We chatted about her upcoming wedding (I’m one of her bridesmaids) and her possible visit home soon. She moved out to Massachusetts a little over 2 years ago (right Kel?...) and I miss her dearly. I am really looking forward to helping her plan and celebrate her nuptials!
Earlier in the day I had heard from Jennie we were going to be working on single rep max front squats for strength. I was really excited since I had seen such great progression from the “games programming.” My theoretical one rep max was 78k. But for some reason as I was loading up my bar 75k seemed easy so I jumped right to 80k. 80k was a successful lift so I went ahead and tried 82.5k, which would put me on the top spot for the ladies. I successfully front squatted 82.5k, which was a 12.5k PR! : ) Later that night though Hannah came in and stole my gold medal with a STRONG lift of 85k! She’s just amazing that girl…
The METCON looked fun to me, it was an AMrAP of 5 rounds, :45 pvc jumps (24/20"), :15 rest, :30 push press (35/25kg), :30 rest, :15 pull-ups, :45 rest. I was looking at some of the girls scores form the earlier classes and I set a goal to beat 250 reps. That meant I would need to complete at least 50 reps each round. I knew it was possible because I am pretty quick with the pvc jumps, and hoped to rack up tons of reps in that :45. My first round I scored 59, then 57, 55, 50, 48. Those push presses really started to get heavy toward the end of the WOD. I ended up racking the bar once during each of the last two rounds. My final score was 269 reps, which was the top score for the ladies that day! : ) I was happy with my score, but clearly saw I could improve on my strength and pullups which lacked during the WOD. KTUCK was close behind with 264, and Kirsten repped out 261! Those girls were right on my tail, way to go ladies! : )
I woke up a little sluggish on Saturday morning and even felt like hitting the snooze button and sleeping through the Oly lifting class. But, I knew I had pre-registered and needed to drag my butt in! My body felt quite sore all over, but my shoulders were extremely sore so I decided to work on my cleans. I was hoping to work my heavy cleans and get up to a new PR. Unfortunately I couldn’t even get under my old PR, which was 65k. I felt a little frustrated, but also knew my body had probably had enough from the previous week of PRs! It was time for team Saturday and I saw that Charlie and I were paird up again…for the third weekend in a row. I was hoping the third time would be the charm! Josh, Garth, Charlie and I immediately started strategizing when we saw this on the board: 4000m row, 250 ring dips & 250 knees to elbows. The work could be divided up however you wanted, but you only got 1 rower, and 1 section of pull-up bar. The pull-up bar included two sets of rings. Each team also had a barbell loaded to 120k. Each 120k deadlift counted as 1 second off your final score. The deadlifts could be done by duos or individually. We decided that each of us would row 1000m and then we’d chip away at the ring dips first and then complete the K2E. I rowed second which let me complete 42 ring dips for my team (I was on the purple band), and once I came off the rower I completed 51 K2E. Charlie was still on the rower when we completed all of the dips & K2E so Garth ran and grabbed a quick set of 5 DLs, and then Josh and I completed 5…we were able to get 15 more completed before Charlie called time. We we the Saturday Team Champions thanks to our strong pulls on the rower, Josh’s blazing ring dips, and Garth’s speedy K2Es. : )
Saturday night was CFF’s Third Anniversary Celebration. About 50 members rode downtown on a school bus to Fogo De Chao to enjoy some yummy meaty goodness! The food was delicious, wine was tasty, and the company was fantastic. We even ended the night with Bill doing a single round of Fran back at the Fort to cure his hiccups…yeah, I’m not so sure, it was Garth’s idea lol!
