I'm Not Ignoring You I Promise...

I know it's been a while since I last updated. I'm going to do my best and try to catch up...

I was super excited for this week to come because I was going to be helping Jennie run the February Ramp-Up classes! I have been coaching volleyball now for seven years. Coaching is just something that comes natural to me and I absolutely love teaching others. So when I found out that CrossFit Atlas which is just right downtown Chicago was hosting a CrossFit Level One Certification I signed up immediately. Having this certification permits me to become a CrossFit Coach. I have wanted to coach for CFF and luckily Bill and Jennie have decided to let me go through their coaches training program. Once ramp-up has concluded I will have to complete a few other tasks before I can become a CFF coach. I am extremely eager to hopefully become a member of the CFF staff! : )
Monday February 7th was the first day of the February ramp-up. Before ramp-up I stopped into the 6pm for hang power snatch day. We were working our way up to a single rep max. My first sets of three started at 25k, 30k, and 35k. Then for my singles I jumped up to 40k, 42k, and then 44k, which was a new PR by 10.2k! : ) I was really happy with that progress. The metcon that day was 3:00 row, 1:30 rest, 2:00 thursters (35k), 1:30 rest, 1:00 T2B (toes to bar). The total score was the combination of calories and reps. I rowed 45 cals, did 17 thrusters, and 17 T2B, for a total of 79. This score was significantly lower than most of the girls that day. I realized I rowed way less calories, so obviously that is an area of improvement. After the WOD I was excited to help Jennie set up and welcome our new soon to be CrossForters! I truly enjoyed every moment of our hour ramp-up, and am really excited for our new 7 hopefuls!
Dying after only one round!
Tuesday we did not have the typical strength portion of class. Mainly because the WOD that was written on the board was a doosey! It was five rounds of 2:30 AMRAP of 5 hang power cleans (40k) & 10 burpees then a 2:30 rest. I really wanted to get at least two full rounds each 2:30, but the third and fourth round nearly killed me and I slowed down quite a bit. Round One: 2 + 3, Round Two: 2 + 1, Round Three: 1 + 14, Round Four: 1 + 10, Round Five: 2. Shout out to Nicole for pushing me to finish those last few burpees in that fifth round, I couldn’t have done it without her motivation.
We’re back to working on our heavy front squats except its Wednesday’s now instead of Fridays! We completed three sets of three at 85% of our SRM. I chose to go with 70k all three sets and man, it was heavy! The metcon was death by box jumps (20”), one I was super excited about. I feel like box jumps are a strength of mine and really hoped to set a record.  In the first thirty seconds you have to complete one box jump, the next thirty seconds you must complete two box jumps and so on. I ended up getting 17 + 14 rounds. I was happy with my performance and at that time of the day had the best girls score. However, Hannah and KTuck came in the next class and showed me up! : ) Those girls are amazing and I am so lucky to get to train with them.
Last year at this time a big group of us headed to St. Louis (well, St. Charles, MO to be exact) to support CFF’s athletes participating in the Midwest CrossFit Games Sectional. Zach, me, Deb and Bender all stayed in my parents condo which is right downtown St. Louis and had an absolute blast together. So much that we decided to make this an annual trip even though the Sectionals weren’t even taking place this year. So we packed up and headed to St. Louis for a fun getaway Friday afternoon. Before we left though I stopped at the fort for some push presses and an awesome WOD. My push presses were five sets of five, at 25k, 30k, 33k, 36k, & 40k. Zach reminded me that I shouldn’t be using the momentum on the way down to help me push up the next rep up, so I made sure to really control the movement between reps. The WOD was 6:00 AMRAP 15 ball slams (20#) and 7 OHS (30k), 3:00 rest, 3:00 AMRAP 12 pullups and 7 ring dips (purple assistance band). This metcon was rough because it was only Zach and I in the gym, plus I had tweaked my shoulder the night before so it was super sore throughout all of the movements. But overall, I felt like I got a good workout and felt like my OHS are getting stronger.
